Our History curriculum aims to inspire all pupils, from our youngest learners in the Early Years to those preparing for secondary school in Key Stage 2, to become curious, analytical thinkers with a broad understanding of the past. We want children to develop the confidence to question, investigate and interpret the world around them, learning to think like historians.

Our intention is for pupils to engage deeply with the past by exploring evidence, considering different perspectives and forming informed, balanced interpretations of events, people and societies. Through this, children develop respect for different cultures, beliefs and experiences, while recognising how history has shaped identities, communities and the world we live in today.

History encourages pupils to take responsibility for their learning and to understand how the choices and actions of individuals and societies can have lasting consequences. They develop perseverance when tackling challenging historical questions and examining evidence, and learn the importance of collaboration through discussion, debate and shared enquiry.

We want all pupils to be ambitious historians who are curious, knowledgeable and motivated to achieve their very best. Our curriculum supports teachers to deliver engaging, accurate and ambitious lessons and is designed to be accessible and aspirational, ensuring that every child, regardless of background or starting point, can participate, achieve and develop a lifelong interest in History. Ultimately, we aim to nurture reflective and active citizens who can use their understanding of the past to make sense of the present and contribute thoughtfully to the future.
