Eagles Class

Welcome to Eagles Class!

In Eagles, we have our Year 5 and 6 children taught by Mr Downes.

We are a happy, friendly and hardworking class where everyone is encouraged to do their very best.

In Eagles Class, we create a positive and welcoming environment where every child feels valued and supported. We encourage kindness, respect and teamwork, helping everyone to grow in confidence.

We aim to make learning exciting and engaging, with a range of activities that challenge and inspire. Children are encouraged to:

  • Be curious and ask questions
  • Try their best and not be afraid of mistakes
  • Work independently and as part of a team

We believe children achieve their best when school and home work together. We are always happy to talk, so please feel free to get in touch with any questions or concerns.

Meet Mr Downes

I am Mr Downes, teacher of Eagles Class (Y5/6), and I am so happy to be part of the inspiring community at Clifton-upon-Teme.

For me, primary teaching is all about inspiring a love of learning in children - and in ourselves. I love helping children grow in confidence, whether that's through their grasp of academic concepts or the courage to give their all in the arts. Exploring the world around them and asking the questions that are hardest to answer is what makes children so inspiring, and why teaching is so rewarding.

In Eagles Class, we invite those questions, encourage debate, and aim to deepen our understanding of both the curriculum and our own interests. We always try our best at everything we do, and even when it's tough, our perseverance shines through.

Personally, PE and music have always been key parts of my life - whether that's playing across a range of sports teams or picking up any instrument I can get my hands on! I'm grateful to bring these passions into life at Clifton, in the hope that they inspire the children just as much as the children inspire me.

At weekends, you'll usually find me outdoors and active, before spending the rest of the day learning a new skill, practising an old one, or settling down with a Terry Pratchett novel.
